Going Full Frame…

Nikon D700

Since it seems I’m hopelessly destined to succumb to all the flights of fancy that amateur photographers do, I’ve decided to make the leap to full frame. If I could go back in time I might start over with Canon, if not for their tempting 5D Mark II, then for their awesome and reasonably priced (unlike Nikon) line-up of lenses. But Nikon made it possible with the D700. Why would I need full frame? Well, I don’t of course. But if I had to defend the decision I would cite that I am not that into sports and wildlife photography, where I could really benefit from a crop sensor. I like anything that gives me a faster shutter speed in challenged light. I like clean 3D like resolution. With my aging eyes I like big viewfinders. And, of course, I love shiny new toys. The Down-Side of Dual Systems

This has been bothering me for a long time…

As I’ve mentioned before, I have both Pentax and Nikon equipment. Some would say “must be nice.” And it is, to the extent that more is better. But is it? How I got into two systems is a long story that won’t get into here, other than to say it involved decisions that made some sense at the time. But in many ways I find it a constant nuisance. Here Comes The Sun!

Soleil

Introducing Soleil, our friend Felicia’s new baby daughter. I had my camera with me during a recent get-together and was able to snap a couple shots without waking her up. I had an ultra wide angle lens on from some shooting I was doing earlier, and it made a nice exaggeration of perspective here. It put the soother out of focus and way up in the foreground making the composition just a bit more interesting. Of course I would have liked a better background than her baby seat, but for an impromptu snapshot in a restaurant, I can’t complain. Congrats Felicia! She’s a doll!

Out With The Old….

My first f8photo website was a free Godaddy website tonight build. It had a cool template, but the banners and design limitations (or perhaps my own limited knowledge of what my customization potential was) held it back. When I got my first real hosting account, I designed my own “site” which was really just a launchpad page with links to various existing destinations. Here’s what it looked like:
