Melancholy Collection
Photos taken during an open house in Dom sv. Alzbety, the big old church in the center of downtown Kosice, Slovakia. The lighting in this beautiful old cathedral was a real challenge for my equipment and skills at the time. In fact, in creating this collection I was amused by the multiple levels of dark vs light in play- both in the religious sense and the technical aspects of capturing sharp and reasonably well exposed images in this environment. I post-processed this collection of images to evoke a somber, melancholy mood. Rays of light through many stained glass windows reveal the ornate features of the church that are otherwise, at least to the “camera’s eye”, almost swallowed by darkness. In settling on a title for this mini collection I was even struck by the fact the the word melancholy ends in “holy”.
